VIDLA would like to proudly introduce our Patron:

Dena Murray

www.denamurray.com

Dena Murray was born in Los Angeles, CA, where she began her singing career at the age of 12. Her performance career included musical theatre productions, television and motion picture work, as well as voice-over singing for radio commercial advertising. Specializing in Vocal technique for over 20 years, her  passion and dream has been to help singers achieve their own dreams.

In 1994 – 2006, Dena joined the teaching staff at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA. From 1996-2006, she co-ordinated the technique taught by all instructors and wrote the curriculum for the vocal department.

Since leaving MI, Dena teaches privately in-home, and online, working with both beginning and professional singers worldwide. Some of her students have included Holly Valentine (Hyper Crush), Sarah Hudson (Ultraviolet Sound) Christina & Michael Salerno (Within The Eddy), Lauren Adams, Jon Hensley (As The World Turns, soap star and drama), demo-and-session artists, talent from CBS, NBC, HBO, motion picture films, and television. She is also a key Subject Matter Expert for The Modern Vocalist (a large and growing website serving the needs of vocalists from all over the world.).

Dena’s first book “Vocal Technique: A Guide To Finding Your Real Voice,” (Hal Leonard Publications 2002) features an introduction to the vocal mechanism, how it works, why it can be necessary to separate the head and chest registers before bridging for one-register sound, and exactly how.

Her second book, co-authored by Tita Hutchison “Advanced Vocal Technique: Middle Voice, Placement, and Styles”(Hal Leonard Publications 2008) is a combination of both authors’ experiences, teaching a unique method for proper mask placement through physical sensations, and how to practically apply the method to all styles of singing.

“Vocal Strength & Power: Boost your Singing with Proper Technique and Breathing” (Hal Leonard Publications 2009) contains little-known secrets behind the art of breath technique, how to achieve true loudness, strength, endurance, and increase of range for a much more powerful one-register sound and singing voice.

Dena graduated from Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY, with a Bachelor of Science in Speech.

Dena’s books are available at the VIDLA Bookstore,

and also  www.amazon.com and www.amazon.co.uk

We at VIDLA are absolutely delighted to welcome Dena as our Patron - she is not only a vocal coach of impeccable standards, reputation and great passion for her work, but also a sincerely lovely human being! It is our pleasure to know her, and we urge our students to get to know her work.
