STUDY BREAKS

A lot of people ask if they will be able to take a break from their studies if they need to for health reasons, or if life dictates that they have to.

The answer is that in most cases it can be arranged if we know in advance. (We reserve the right to ask for a medical certificate for conditions which occur after the course has been started).

Just ask when you apply!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

It works like this: your course materials (written, audio or audiovisual) are uploaded into a secure site which is ‘invisible’ to everyone except you and the Academy staff.

You download the work, or read / listen to it direct from your computer, complete your assignments, then upload your completed work so that your Personal Tutor can mark it.

It’s quite straightforward but it does require basic computing skills. We will give you straightforward instructions on how to do it. You don’t have to be a computer whizz kid to understand it, but we recommend that you are reasonably at home with word processing, audio / visual file formats, the internet and emailing, before you consider taking one of our distance-learning courses.

For any of our teaching courses, you will need a webcam, and you will also need to install Skype on your computer, enabled for video calls. This will come into play when you do your Teaching Practise units at the end of your course, but we will ask for your Skype ID on signup (on the application form).

You can download Skype for free at www.skype.com

DISTANCE LEARNING COURSES

Home Study, also known as Distance Learning, forms the backbone of our course roster here at VIDLA. You study in the comfort of your own home, without being tied to other peoples’ timetables.

When you sign up for a VIDLA course, you will be assigned a Personal Tutor, who will be on hand (via email) to guide you through your studies.

The advantages are clear - you get to work at home, in your own time, but you also have the support of a highly experienced Personal Tutor.
